Benjamin Drummond - The First Patient

Duty Stations 1861 to 1864

During his first enlistment, from November 4, 1861 to November 11, 1864, Drummond served aboard the USS Ohio (November 4, 1861 to November 30, 1861), the USS Portsmouth (December 1, 1861 to February 2, 1862), the USS North Carolina (February 3 to March 19, 1862), and the USS Morning Light (March 20, 1862, to January 17, 1863 - when he was captured). After escaping from Confederate captivity he rowed out into the Gulf of Mexico and was taken aboard the USS Katahdn which transferred him on the same day to the USS Tennessee aboard which he was transported to New Orleans where he was admitted to the Naval Hospital. Following release from the Hospital he served aboard the USS Fear Not (January 7, 1864 to his discharge on November 11, 1864).
