Benjamin Drummond - The First Patient

Duty Stations 1864 to 1868

During his second enlistment, from December 6, 1864 to March 23, 1868, Drummond served aboard the USS Vandalia (December 6, 1864 to December 31, 1864), the USS Zouave (January 1, 1865 to May 31, 1865), the USS North Carolina (June 1 to July 25, 1865), the USS Squando (July 26, 1865 to May 26, 1866), the USS Princeton (May 27 to May 31, 1866), the USS Santee (June 1 to June 26, 1866), and at the Washington Navy Yard (June 27, 1866 to March 23, 1868 - when he was discharged with a fifty-percent disability for his combat wound). During his first enlistment, from November 4, 1861 to 1864, Drummond served aboard the 
USS Ohio (November 4, 1861 to November 30, 1861), the USS Portsmouth (December 1, 1861 to 
February 2, 1862), the USS North Carolina (February 3 to March 19, 1862), and the 
USS Morning Light (March 20, 1862, to January 17, 1863, when he was captured). 
After escaping he rowed out into the Gulf of Mexico and was transported to the Naval Hospital 
in New Orleans aboard the USS Tennessee, and following release from the Hospital he served 
aboard the USS Fear Not (January 7, 1864 to November 11, 1864).
