a-starboard. He started ahead fast and stood for Galveston. Neither men nor guns were seen on board of the Morning Light, and no voice heard except the one hailing. The Tennessee at the time could fight three guns on a side, viz: One 20-pounder Parrott, one 24-pounder, and one 12-pounder Howitzer. The whole battery consisted of one 20-pounder Parrott, two 24-pounder howitzers, and one 12-pounder howitzer. The guns were all forward. The 12-pounder howitzer was mounted on a field carriage.
